New York Has Passed The Child Victims Act
The Child Victims Act passed the New York Legislature and was signed by the Governor on February 19, 2019. The law will provide all abuse survivors, regardless of their current age, one year to file a claim for the abuse they suffered. The law also extends the statute of limitations for some claims, but the one-year “window” to file a claim applies to all abuse survivors.
The sexual abuse of youths by Priests, Pastors, Reverends, Rabbis, Deacons, Sisters, Brothers and members of various faiths exploits positions of power and trust. Historically, religious institutions turned a blind eye, or even worse protected and moved pedophiles and hid their predatory past.
